BASEM 2013 Congress 31 Oct - 1 Nov 2013

The conference returns to St Georges Park in England in
October 2013, prior to the conference being hosted in
Scotland and Wales in October 2014 and 2015 respectively.
The theme of the conference is focused on a new era for BASEM
and the specialty of SEM with ‘an expanding field of practice’.
The programme contains scientific evidence based material as
well as empirical data, experience and anecdotes. Time keeping
will be strict to ensure that the discussion sessions are respected
and lead to constructive interaction and debate.

Delegates may attend practical sessions throughout the whole
conference for hands on learning and skill development. BASEM
celebrates its warm association with physiotherapists, sports
therapists and doctors in many specialties both in Great Britain
and in Europe.

2012 was a celebration of sport like no other in modern times
in Great Britain. We now move into a phase of uncertainty
alongside words of “austerity” and “legacy”.

For the specialty of Sport and Exercise Medicine to thrive
and prosper, medical education needs to be encouraged and
supported more than ever. The specialists in this area need to
gain control over their own specialty and move forwards with
the confidence to establish roles and job creation for the
doctors of the future. There are many other countries wanting
to establish Sport and Exercise Medicine as a specialty and
they are looking to Great Britain, amongst others, to set
an example.
