Connect Physical Health require an SEM
Consultant to work in London across its two Community NHS
Musculoskeletal contracts.
The first contract in Camden is well
established and the successful applicant will take over the role from
the current SEM Consultant in post. The Camden role includes
assessment and management of GP- referred patients as part of a
multidisciplinary MSK team including Physiotherapists, Podiatry,
Osteopaths, GPs with Special Interest (GPwSI), Rheumatologist,
Orthopaedic Surgeons and integrated Pain Service. In this contract
there are strong links with University College Hospital (UCH) and
Royal Free Hospital.
The second contract is due to begin in
September in Kensington& Chelsea involving a new GP-commissioned
NHS community MSK service. This contract will be provided in full
partnership with Chelsea & Westminster NHS Trust Hospital and
involves a similar multidisciplinary community service to Camden. The
post-holder would work within this service clinically alongside Trust
staff as well as sit on the “MSK Board” which oversees the
successful running of the service. The SEM Consultant would support
the Clinical Director of the ChelWest musculoskeletal department (an
Orthopaedic Surgeon) overseeing the clinical aspects of the service.
In both contracts, the post-holder
would have responsibility for clinical support to the team,
particularly the physiotherapists at all levels and GPwSIs. There
would also be a teaching commitment to the rest of the team and GPs
within both boroughs. In addition Connect plans to run a GPwSI
training programme in London, reproducing successful programmes
elsewhere in the UK. The post-holder would be a key person in the
operation of this programme and teaching on it. The successful
applicant will possess excellent clinical skills and skills/
developing proficiency with MSK Ultrasound.
Connect Physical Health is a
longstanding independent provider of high quality NHS MSK services
with patients at the centre of care. Connect is expanding rapidly in
the Community MSK sector across the UK and in London. The successful
candidate in this role would be expected to be able to represent
Connect favourably to GP Commissioners and potential partner
organisations including NHS Hospital Trusts. The ability to relate to
GPs and Hospital Consultants will be an important part of the role.
Linked to this
role, there is the potential for 2 sessions in SEM at the Institute
of Sport, Exercise and Health and University College Hospital,
London. Pending approvals, the Connect MSK opportunity would provide
four sessions per week plus extra sessions for GPwSI training, with
up to two extra sessions in SEM possible at UCH.
This is an exciting role with the
ability to develop the scope of the role and clinical practice. It is
likely that further sessions up to full-time may develop. The
candidate would be fully supported by the Clinical Lead for Connect,
a Consultant in Sports & Exercise Medicine. Start date would be
as soon as possible after 1st August.
