LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB - 1st Team Physician
Liverpool Football Club is seeking an experienced sports and exercise physician for a full time position as Team Physician. The successful applicant will report to Dr Peter Brukner, Head of Sports Medicine and Sports Science, and will be involved in the care of the first team squad including training and match days.
The successful applicant will have outstanding clinical assessment and treatment skills, outstanding communication skills, and will need to possess a very strong work ethic. They will need be familiar with and comfortable working in the unique environment of an elite professional sporting team. They will need honesty, directness and discretion and perhaps above all, they will need to be able to work well as part of a structured medical and sports science team.
The successful applicant must:
• Be of good standing on the GMC GP Register, or the GMC Specialist Register
• Hold a Postgraduate Diploma or MSc in Sport and Exercise Medicine
• Be a Member or Fellow of the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine
• Have at least two or more years experience as a team doctor at an elite level of sport, preferably football
• Be able to show evidence of ongoing CPD, in accordance with the FA Rules, and annual medical appraisal in the major speciality of their work portfolio
• Have passed a pitch-side immediate trauma care course in the last year (FA Resuscitation + Emergency Aid Certification or equivalent)
• Hold appropriate medical indemnity insurance including Sport and Exercise Medicine
• possess excellent communication as well as personal organisational skills.

This freelance consultant role involves working principally on the largest and most complex events of the portfolio, as well as giving advice and support on IMG’s International events. The UK based events are namely:
The London Triathlon – the largest triathlon in the world (13,000 entrants)
The Blenheim Triathlon (5,500 entrants)
Run to the Beat – London’s music half marathon (17,000 entrants)
The events include all abilities ranging from Olympic athletes through to thousands of participants experiencing triathlons for the first time. The role will receive the full support from the core full time IMG MPS team.
IN BRIEF – the role will include:
a targeted number of office days to include pre and post event meetings
recruitment, selection and coordination of the core medical team
management of all different event medical resources including the medics, equipment, additional medical support agencies (ambulances, paramedics etc.)
ensure that the Event medical strategy is continually monitored and developed throughout the year
collation of necessary medical equipment
collation and analysis of post event reports
ultimately ensuring that the delivery of a world class medical service is in place for thousands of competitors
IN DETAIL – Structure prior to each Event:
produce and update the medical strategy document
update and produce templates of Event medical records
attend agreed number of meetings organised in relation to an Event
keep the Event Medics informed of all relevant details pertaining to the Event and the medical strategy document
Structure during each Event:
briefing of core medical staff
management and deployment of core medical staff
co-ordination of 3rd parties (ambulances and paramedics etc.)
undertake and lead appropriate number of medical meetings with relevant medical parties
collate all medical report cards
ensure the strategy set out in the medical strategy document is being implemented by the Event Medics
in cases of Critical Incidents, provide sufficient information on the specific case in consultation with event Medics involved in the incident and attend relevant formal meetings and enquiries
Structure after each Event:
deliver a medical audit report, defining number, timings, nature and location of medical incidents during the Event
attend and present at the post Event de-brief meeting with IMG and other relevant parties
in cases of Critical Incidents provide sufficient information on the specific case in consultation with event Medics involved in the incident and attend relevant formal meetings and enquiries
Selected applicants will be asked to visit The Blenheim Triathlon (June 5/6) after which time they will be invited to attend an interview. Successful applicants will then be asked to shadow the current Medical Director at the London Triathlon and Run to the Beat. If this isn’t possible, an alternative can be arranged. Re-numeration to be discussed.

We require a doctor with sports or A+E experience to help with a 7's rugby
tournament on Sunday the 9th May, from 9.30 through till the conclusion at around
5.30. There are 24 teams playing in the event with a maximum of four games on at any
one time, you will also have a Chartered Physiotherapist (with sport or rugby
experience) and 4 St John's 1st Aiders at the event, who will also have an
ambulance. The local ambulance service and hospital (Kingston Hospital) will also be
informed of the event taking place.
You will be required to bring with you an appropriate sports trauma medical bag, with
the medication suitable for dealing with on field sporting injuries and medical problems. We will then reimburse you for the medication used. The physiotherapist will have an appropriate medical 1st aid bag with taping, and St John's will have the correct spinal boards, collars and splits for the event.
Remuneration for the day will be £300, plus medication required to be used. I will
also need a written report of injuries treated and course of action taken to assist
us in running the event.
